Editorial Policy

Editorial Policy

MetroReport.uk is committed to independent, accurate and accountable journalism about UK city life and urban affairs. This policy sets out the standards and procedures that govern everything we publish. It applies to all editorial content on the site, including news, analysis, commentary and in-depth reporting. Our goal is to provide readers with reliable information they can trust, while being transparent about how we work.

Editorial Process

Every article published on MetroReport.uk is reviewed by a human editor before it goes live. This review covers factual accuracy, clarity, fairness and compliance with our editorial standards. For articles that deal with sensitive topics – including criminal justice, public health controversies, major infrastructure disputes or allegations of wrongdoing – the review process includes additional fact-checking by our Standards & Fact-Checking team. In such cases, at least two editorial staff members must sign off on the content. No article is published without this oversight.

Independence

Editorial decisions at MetroReport.uk are made independently of any commercial, political or personal interests. Our funding comes from advertising, commercial partnerships and clearly labelled sponsored content. Commercial partners never influence editorial coverage, and any content that has been paid for or influenced by an external party is clearly marked as sponsored or promoted. For full details of our ownership and funding structure, see /ownership-funding/.

Accuracy and Sourcing Standards

We base our reporting on primary sources, official records and publicly available data wherever possible. Journalists and editors are expected to verify claims using multiple independent sources, especially when reporting on contested issues or matters of public concern. We cite sources in articles to allow readers to assess the basis of our reporting. For a detailed explanation of our sourcing and verification methods, please see Sources & Standards and our Fact-Checking Policy.

Attribution and Author Accountability

All editorial content is attributed to a named writer or, in the case of collaborative pieces, to the editorial team. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of their own work and are expected to adhere to our ethical guidelines. Each writer’s biography and contact details can be found on Our Team page. Readers who have questions or concerns about a specific article are encouraged to contact the named author in the first instance.

Update Dates Policy

Every article displays its original publication date. When a piece is materially changed – for example, to correct an error, add significant new information or update factual details – the article will also show a ‘last updated’ date. Minor edits, such as fixing typographical errors or updating links, do not trigger a new date. We make clear in a note at the foot of the article what has changed when the content is updated.

Review Process for Policy, Health, Education, Finance and Legal Topics

Articles that discuss government policy, health advice, education systems, financial matters or legal issues receive additional editorial scrutiny. Writers and editors covering these areas are expected to have relevant knowledge or to consult qualified experts. Where appropriate, we include references to official guidance, peer-reviewed research or authoritative sources. This is a general information service; it is not a substitute for professional advice (see disclaimer below).

AI and Automation Disclosure

Digital tools – including artificial intelligence – may be used to support research, editing, formatting and content review. However, all published editorial content is reviewed by a human editor before publication. No automated system makes final decisions on what we publish. We are transparent about our use of such tools and will update this policy as technology evolves.

General Information Disclaimer

The content on MetroReport.uk is provided for general informational purposes only. It is not intended to be, and should not be taken as, medical, financial or legal advice. Readers should consult appropriately qualified professionals for advice specific to their circumstances. We make every effort to ensure the accuracy of the information we publish, but we cannot guarantee that it is error-free or up to date at all times.

Complaints and Corrections

If you believe an article contains an error, or if you have a complaint about our editorial conduct, please contact us at complaints@metroreport.uk. We take all complaints seriously and will acknowledge receipt within five working days. Our full procedure for handling corrections and complaints is set out in the Corrections Policy.
